“The control of the airway is very important in rabbits to provide a stable and safe anaesthesia. Our first experience with the v-gel was extremely positive. The v-gels were very easy to place, instantly giving us a good airway, and very secure in the pharynx being tied with gauze behind the head. The v-gel remained safely in place for our 2-hour surgical procedure.”

We purchased our rabbit V-Gel device fairly recently and so far we have used it for two rabbit dentals. On both occasions we found that placement was relatively straight forward and a good seal was achieved over the pharyngeal airway. Both of these patients required the removal of spurs from the back teeth as part of their treatment and, although the presence of the v-gel device reduced some visibility, it did not prevent access. Both rabbits recovered well after treatment and commenced eating almost immediately. There was no evidence of discomfort or coughing during or after recovery.
We are enjoying using our v-gel device with our rabbit anaesthesia protocols and are considering purchasing more sizes in the future.

“Although we’d read about the v-gel in the veterinary press, seeing it “in the flesh” at the London Vet Show in 2012 was an instant convincer — it was so simple, easy to use and effective. Our first models were in the practice a week later and they have revolutionised our rabbit anaesthesia.”
“Over the last 12 months we have carried out around 75 rabbit anaesthetics. The v-gel makes intubation simple and straightforward — no more laryngoscopes or struggling with blind-placed ET tubes. As soon as the v-gel is in place you have a protected airway, improved oxygen delivery, and great control of anaesthetic levels during a procedure. However, the biggest difference we notice is at recovery, the tube is so comfortable that many rabbits tolerate it until they are almost awake. Recoveries are smooth and the rabbits go to the post-op incubator much more aware and alert.”
“We use the v-gels every week in our practice. The benefits far out weight the purchase cost (which we spread across our anaesthetic fees anyway) and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them — the vets and nurses love them!”
